An orthopaedic hand surgeon at the University of Virginia (UVA) Health System, Bobby Chhabra serves as division head of Hand and Upper Extremity Surgery in the Department of Orthopaedics. Additionally, he is the hand and upper extremity consultant for the UVa Athletics and a faculty member of three UVA education programs, including the hand surgery, primary care sports medicine and sports medicine fellowships. Bobby Chhabra’s professional training includes seven years of post-graduate education.
Before joining UVA Health System as a physician in 2002, Bobby Chhabra finished fellowships at the Hand Center of San Antonio and Texas Scottish Rite Hospital for Children. Earlier in his training, he completed a postdoctoral research fellowship at the UVA School of Medicine’s Orthopaedic Research Laboratory, followed by an orthopaedic surgery residency at the UVA Department of Orthopaedics. Shortly after earning his doctor of medicine in 1995, he interned at the UVA Department of Surgery for one year.
Over the course of his career, Dr. Bobby Chhabra has made numerous contributions to the orthopaedic field. His published works have appeared in peer-reviewed journals,abstract presentations, and electronic publications. Educational contributions include over 150 conferences, grand rounds, and class lectures in addition to a series of teaching laboratory workshops for regional and national surgeons. He also held a two-hour webinar titled Hand Surgery Review for the Orthopaedic Board Examination.
In addition to his appointed positions at UVA, Bobby Chhabra is also affiliated with the American Orthopaedic Association, the Southeastern Hand Surgery Club, and the Academy of Distinguished Educators.
